CuNi 70/30 Copper Nickel Elbow 90 Deg LR Seawater Corrosion Resistant ASME B16.9
1. Product Description
A copper nickel elbow is a directional fitting in copper-nickel piping systems, mainly used to change the flow direction of the medium inside a pipeline. The product is usually manufactured from 90/10 copper nickel and 70/30 copper nickel, corresponding to UNS C70600 and UNS C71500. 90/10 copper nickel offers excellent seawater corrosion resistance, good thermal conductivity, and relatively good cost effectiveness. 70/30 copper nickel has a higher nickel content and provides better strength, erosion resistance, and corrosion resistance for more demanding conditions.
Copper nickel elbows can be formed by hot pressing, cold pushing, forging, or welding, and can be processed through solution annealing, pickling, and passivation. Common angles are 45°, 90°, and 180°. According to bending radius, they are divided into long radius and short radius. According to end connection, they are divided into butt weld, socket weld, threaded, press, flange, and bell end types. Product dimensions and materials can generally comply with ASTM B466, ASTM B467, ASME B16.9, ASME B16.28, MSS SP-43, EEMUA 146, and other standards.
2. Product Applications
Copper nickel elbows are suitable for seawater, brine, and corrosive media piping systems. Main applications include:
-
Marine: seawater cooling, fire water, ballast water, bilge water, ballast water treatment, and desulfurization systems.
-
Offshore engineering: offshore platforms, floating production storage and offloading units, subsea pipelines, and seawater injection lines.
-
Desalination: seawater intake, reverse osmosis feed, and brine discharge.
-
Power generation: condenser cooling, circulating water, and cooling water systems.
-
Chemical industry: brine, corrosive liquids, and chemical media transportation pipelines.
-
Other fields: liquefied natural gas facilities, hydraulic piping, HVAC, and general industrial piping.
3. Product Advantages
-
Strong corrosion resistance: good resistance in seawater, brine, and many non-oxidising acids, with resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, stress corrosion, and erosion corrosion.
-
Anti-biofouling: the protective film on the copper-nickel surface helps inhibit marine organism attachment and reduces blockage risk.
-
Good strength and toughness: capable of withstanding higher flow rates, pressure fluctuations, and vibration fatigue, suitable for long-term operation.
-
Good thermal conductivity: suitable for heat exchangers, condensers, and cooling systems.
-
Good fabrication and welding performance: easy to cold form, weld, and install, and can also be connected with certain other metals.
-
Long service life: the protective film becomes stable during service, resulting in low corrosion rates and reduced maintenance costs.
-
Flexible material selection: 90/10 copper nickel is economical and practical, while 70/30 copper nickel is suitable for more severe conditions.
4. Product Functions
-
Changing medium flow direction: achieves 45°, 90°, or 180° direction changes.
-
Completing pipe offset: enables pipe offset, misalignment correction, and rearrangement within complex spaces.
-
Connecting and sealing: connects pipes through welding, press-fitting, threading, or other methods to form a sealed piping system.
-
Reducing local resistance: long radius elbows provide smooth transition, reducing turbulence, pressure drop, and wear.
-
Providing corrosion-resistant joints: serves as a key connection fitting in highly corrosive media, extending system service life.
-
Adapting to complex layouts: helps the piping system achieve a reasonable route and reduces unnecessary connection points.
