Marine Grade Copper Nickel 90/10 Elbow 90 Deg Long Radius Butt Weld Fitting ASTM B466
1. Product Description
A Copper Nickel Elbow is a pipe directional fitting made from copper-nickel alloy, mainly used to change the direction of fluid flow in piping systems. The commonly used materials are 90/10 Copper Nickel and 70/30 Copper Nickel. The 90/10 Copper Nickel alloy consists of approximately 90% copper, 10% nickel, and small amounts of iron and manganese. It combines good seawater corrosion resistance with relatively good cost effectiveness. The 70/30 Copper Nickel alloy contains a higher nickel content and offers better strength, corrosion resistance, and erosion resistance, making it suitable for more demanding operating conditions.
Copper Nickel Elbows are commonly available in 45°, 90°, and 180° angles. According to the bending radius, they can be classified as long radius and short radius. According to the end connection type, they can be classified as butt weld, socket weld, threaded, press, flange, and bell end types. The products are generally manufactured according to dimensional standards such as ASME B16.9, ASME B16.28, MSS SP-43, and EEMUA 146, and the raw materials can comply with ASTM B466, ASTM B467, and other relevant standards.
2. Product Applications
Copper Nickel Elbows are widely used in piping systems with high corrosion resistance requirements, especially in seawater, brine, and corrosive media environments. Main applications include:
-
Marine and shipbuilding: seawater cooling systems, fire water systems, ballast systems, bilge systems, and domestic seawater piping.
-
Offshore oil and gas: offshore production platforms, floating production storage and offloading units, subsea pipelines, and seawater injection lines.
-
Desalination: seawater intake pipelines, reverse osmosis feed lines, and brine discharge lines.
-
Power generation: condenser cooling systems, circulating water pipelines, and cooling water systems.
-
Chemical industry: brine, corrosive liquids, and chemical media transportation pipelines.
-
Other fields: liquefied natural gas facilities, hydraulic piping, HVAC systems, and general industrial piping layouts.
3. Product Advantages
-
Excellent corrosion resistance: good resistance in seawater, brine, and many non-oxidising acids, with resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, stress corrosion, and erosion corrosion.
-
Anti-biofouling: the protective film formed on the copper-nickel surface helps inhibit marine organism attachment and reduces the risk of pipe blockage.
-
Good strength and toughness: capable of withstanding higher flow rates, pressure fluctuations, and vibration fatigue, suitable for long-term operation.
-
Good thermal conductivity: suitable for heat exchangers, condensers, and cooling systems requiring efficient heat transfer.
-
Good fabrication and welding performance: easy to cold form, weld, and install, and can also be connected with certain other metals.
-
Long service life: the protective film becomes stable during service, resulting in low corrosion rates and reduced maintenance costs.
-
Flexible material selection: 90/10 Copper Nickel is economical and practical, while 70/30 Copper Nickel is suitable for more severe corrosion and erosion conditions.
4. Product Functions
-
Changing fluid direction: used in piping systems to achieve 45°, 90°, or 180° direction changes.
-
Offsetting pipes: enables pipe offset, misalignment correction, and rearrangement within complex spaces.
-
Connecting pipes: reliably connects pipes through welding, press-fitting, threading, or other methods to form a sealed piping system.
-
Reducing turbulence: long radius elbows provide smoother fluid transition, reducing turbulence, pressure drop, and wear.
-
Providing corrosion-resistant joints: serves as a key connection fitting in highly corrosive media, extending the service life of the entire piping system.
