Product Description

CuNi 90/10 Copper Nickel Elbow 45/90 Degree LR Seawater Corrosion Resistant ASME B16.9

1. Product Description

A Copper Nickel Elbow is a pipe fitting made from copper-nickel alloy, primarily used to change the direction of fluid flow in piping systems. The product is typically manufactured from 90/10 Copper Nickel or 70/30 Copper Nickel, with common bend angles including 45°, 90°, and 180°. Copper Nickel Elbows can be connected to pipes through various methods including butt weld, socket weld, threaded, press, and bell end connections. They are widely used in piping systems for shipbuilding, marine engineering, desalination, and power generation.

The 90/10 Copper Nickel alloy is primarily composed of 90% copper and 10% nickel, providing an effective balance of strength, corrosion resistance, and cost effectiveness. It is a standard material for various fluid systems that handle seawater. The 70/30 Copper Nickel alloy offers higher strength and superior corrosion resistance, making it suitable for more demanding operating conditions.

2. Product Applications

Copper Nickel Elbows are primarily used in piping systems requiring excellent seawater corrosion resistance. Typical application areas include:

  • Marine and shipbuilding: seawater cooling systems, fire water systems, ballast lines, bilge systems.

  • Offshore oil and gas: production platforms, subsea pipelines, floating production storage and offloading units.

  • Desalination plants: seawater intake, reverse osmosis feed lines, brine discharge.

  • Power generation: condenser cooling systems, circulating water pipelines.

  • Chemical processing: corrosive fluid handling systems.

  • General piping layouts: offsetting pipes, directional changes of fluid, and spatial arrangement adjustments in piping systems.

Additionally, Copper Nickel Elbows are also used in aerospace hydraulic tubing, automotive brake lines, and HVAC systems.

3. Product Advantages

  • Excellent corrosion resistance: Copper-nickel alloys offer outstanding corrosion resistance in saltwater, brine, and non-oxidising acids, resisting pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking.

  • Anti-biofouling: The protective surface film of copper-nickel alloys effectively inhibits marine organism attachment, reducing pipe blockage and maintenance requirements.

  • Good thermal conductivity: Particularly beneficial for heat exchangers and condensers requiring efficient heat transfer.

  • High strength and durability: The 70/30 alloy is stronger than 90/10, with a yield strength of approximately 150 MPa, capable of handling higher flow rates and pressures.

  • Excellent fabricability: Copper-nickel alloys are readily fabricated and welded, and can also be successfully welded to steel.

  • Long-term structural integrity: The protective surface film continues to develop over time, providing low corrosion rates and reduced maintenance costs.

  • Cost effectiveness: 90/10 Copper Nickel provides good performance at a relatively economical cost, making it the most widely used copper-nickel grade in industry.

4. Product Functions

  • Directional changes of fluid: Copper Nickel Elbows are used to change the direction of fluid flow in piping systems, available in various angles including 45°, 90°, and 180°.

  • Offsetting pipes: Enables pipe offsetting and repositioning in piping layouts to accommodate complex spatial arrangement requirements.

  • Pipe connection: Reliably connects two pipe sections through welding, press-fitting, or threading to form a sealed piping system.

  • Reduced turbulence: Long radius elbows provide smoother fluid transition, reducing turbulence and wear on system components.

  • Corrosion protection: Serves as a corrosion-resistant connection in highly corrosive media, extending system service life.
