Cupro Nickel 70/30 Reducer Pipe Fitting Concentric Marine Grade Butt Weld ASME B16.9
I. Product Description
A copper nickel reducer is a pipe fitting used to connect pipes of different diameters. It achieves a gradual change in internal diameter through a conical transition section. The product is typically manufactured from copper-nickel alloys, commonly 90/10 CuNi and 70/30 CuNi. 90/10 CuNi corresponds to UNS C70600 and offers excellent seawater corrosion resistance. 70/30 CuNi corresponds to UNS C71500 and performs better under higher flow velocities and more corrosive conditions.
By configuration, copper nickel reducers are divided into concentric reducers and eccentric reducers. A concentric reducer has a common centerline at both ends and is suitable for vertical pipes or general size transitions. An eccentric reducer has offset centerlines and is suitable for drainage, venting, or maintaining one side of the pipe flush. Products can be manufactured by seamless, welded, or forged processes. End connections include butt weld, socket weld, threaded, and flanged types. Applicable standards include ASME B16.9, ASTM B366, ASTM B466, DIN 86089, EEMUA 146, and EEMUA 234.
II. Product Applications
Copper nickel reducers are mainly used in piping systems requiring high corrosion resistance, especially in seawater, brine, freshwater, and various chemical media. Typical applications include:
Marine and Offshore Engineering: Seawater cooling systems, fire mains, ballast water systems, bilge systems, freshwater circulation systems, and process piping on offshore platforms.
Desalination and Water Treatment: Intake piping, reverse-osmosis pre-treatment lines, brine discharge lines, and circulating water systems.
Power Industry: Circulating cooling water systems, condenser cooling lines, and auxiliary cooling water systems in coastal power plants and nuclear stations.
Petrochemical and Chemical Industry: Heat exchanger connections, caustic solution transfer lines, cooling circuits, and organic heat-transfer fluid systems.
Municipal Engineering: Water mains, district cooling networks, central air-conditioning chiller piping, and large public building piping systems.
Food and Beverage: Sanitary piping, contamination-free transfer lines, and process pipelines requiring corrosion resistance.
General Industry: Diameter transitions in compressed air, industrial cooling water, and process material lines.
III. Product Advantages
Strong Corrosion Resistance: Copper-nickel alloys form a dense protective film in seawater and saline solutions, providing good resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and erosion corrosion.
Anti-Biofouling: Copper-nickel material inhibits the attachment of marine organisms and microorganisms, reducing pipeline blockage and cleaning frequency.
Stable Mechanical Properties: High strength and good toughness allow the fitting to withstand pressure fluctuations, water hammer, and a certain degree of vibration.
Good Weldability and Machinability: Easy for on-site welding, installation, and maintenance, suitable for complex piping systems.
Long Service Life: In seawater and corrosive media, copper-nickel piping systems typically last more than 20 years with low maintenance costs.
Non-Magnetic: Suitable for equipment and systems sensitive to magnetic fields.
Smooth Inner Wall: Low fluid resistance helps reduce energy consumption and noise.
Low Lifecycle Cost: Although initial material cost is higher, comprehensive economic benefits are significant due to corrosion resistance, low maintenance, and infrequent replacement.
IV. Product Functions
Diameter Transition: Connects pipes of different diameters and achieves a smooth transition between larger and smaller pipe sizes.
Flow Regulation: Changes the flow area in a piping system, thereby adjusting flow rate, velocity, and pressure.
Equipment Adaptation: Matches the inlet and outlet sizes of pumps, valves, heat exchangers, condensers, and other equipment to piping.
Flow Optimization: The conical transition design reduces turbulence and local resistance, making fluid transition smoother.
Eccentric Drainage: Eccentric reducers are used where drainage, venting, or flush bottom or top alignment is required.
System Compatibility: Can be combined with copper-nickel pipes, fittings, flanges, and valves to form a complete corrosion-resistant piping system.
Vibration and Noise Reduction: Proper size transition reduces sudden velocity changes, lowering pipeline vibration and noise.
