Product Description

CuNi 70/30 Copper Nickel Reducer Concentric ASME B16.9 Seawater Corrosion Resistant

I. Product Description

Copper Nickel Reducer, also known as a copper-nickel reducer or reducing joint, is a pipe fitting used to connect pipes of different diameters. It achieves a smooth transition in pipe size through a conical section. The product is primarily manufactured from copper-nickel alloys. Common grades include 90/10 CuNi (UNS C70600, CuNi90/10, BFe10-1-1) and 70/30 CuNi (UNS C71500, CuNi70/30, B30). By configuration, it is divided into concentric reducers and eccentric reducers. A concentric reducer maintains a common centerline at both ends, while an eccentric reducer has offset centerlines. Products are designed and manufactured in accordance with international standards such as ASME B16.9, DIN 86089, EEMUA 146, and EEMUA 234. End connections include butt weld, socket weld, threaded, and flanged types.

II. Product Applications

Copper nickel reducers are widely used in civil and industrial piping systems where corrosion resistance and durability are required. Key applications include:

  1. Commercial Marine and Offshore Facilities: Seawater cooling, fire mains, ballast water treatment, and process water lines on cargo vessels, passenger ships, and offshore production platforms.

  2. Desalination and Water Treatment Plants: Intake pipes, reverse-osmosis pre-treatment lines, and brine discharge systems.

  3. Power Generation Plants: Circulating cooling water systems, condenser auxiliary cooling, and industrial water networks in coastal thermal and nuclear stations.

  4. Petrochemical and Chemical Industries: Heat exchanger interconnections, caustic solution transfer, and organic heat-transfer fluid circuits.

  5. Municipal Infrastructure: Large-diameter water mains, district cooling networks, and central air-conditioning chiller piping.

  6. Food and Beverage Processing: Sanitary, contamination-free piping systems.

  7. General Industrial Facilities: Diameter transitions in compressed air, cooling water, and process material lines.

III. Product Advantages

  1. Outstanding Corrosion Resistance: The alloy forms a stable, dense oxide protective film on the surface, effectively resisting seawater, saline solutions, mild acids, and many chemical agents, with very low susceptibility to pitting and crevice corrosion.

  2. Natural Anti-Biofouling: The copper-nickel material inherently inhibits the attachment and growth of marine and freshwater microorganisms, keeping the inner pipe wall clean and reducing cleaning maintenance requirements.

  3. Excellent Mechanical Properties: High tensile strength and good elongation. 90/10 CuNi has a tensile strength of not less than 275 MPa and an elongation of not less than 30%, capable of withstanding pressure fluctuations and water hammer impacts in piping systems.

  4. Good Weldability: Copper-nickel alloys offer excellent weldability, facilitating on-site installation and repair.

  5. Cost Effectiveness: Over the full lifecycle, copper-nickel piping systems offer significant cost advantages due to corrosion resistance and maintenance-free characteristics, with system life extending beyond 20 years.

  6. Non-Magnetic: Copper-nickel alloys are non-magnetic, suitable for equipment and systems sensitive to magnetic fields.

IV. Product Functions

  1. Pipe Size Transition: Connects pipes of different diameters, achieving a smooth transition of fluid from a larger to a smaller pipe or vice versa, ensuring continuity of the piping system.

  2. Flow and Pressure Regulation: When a piping system requires changes in flow volume, pressure, or velocity, reducers are the key fittings for achieving these parameter adjustments.

  3. Equipment Interface Adaptation: Used to connect equipment with different inlet and outlet sizes, such as pumps, valves, and heat exchangers, functioning as adapters.

  4. Turbulence Reduction: Copper nickel reducers are precisely machined to achieve pipe size changes with minimal turbulent flow, ensuring reasonable pipe pressure transitions.

  5. Special Function of Eccentric Design: Eccentric reducers maintain a consistent bottom elevation on one side of the pipe, suitable for drainage or flush-bottom alignment applications.
