Product Description

CuNi 70/30 Copper Nickel Tee Corrosion Resistant Marine Grade Pipe Fitting ASME B16.5 Class150

1. Product Description

A copper nickel tee is a T-shaped pipe fitting made from copper-nickel (CuNi) alloy, used to join three pipes together at a 90-degree angle, forming a “T” shape that allows fluid flow to be combined or divided within a piping system. Copper nickel tees are available in two main types: equal tee and reducing tee. An equal tee has the same diameter in both the main pipe (run) and the branch, while a reducing tee features a smaller branch diameter relative to the main pipe. The product is manufactured as seamless or welded construction, with connection options including butt weld (BW), socket weld (SW), and threaded ends. Common material grades are C70600 (90/10 CuNi) and C71500 (70/30 CuNi). The 90/10 copper-nickel alloy is composed primarily of 90% copper and 10% nickel, with small but important additions of iron and manganese to enhance overall strength and corrosion resistance.

2. Applications

Copper nickel tees are widely used in the following fields:

  • Marine and Offshore: Seawater cooling systems, fire main systems, ballast water systems, and bilge drainage systems on vessels — a standard component in marine piping systems where durability and longevity are critical.

  • Offshore Platforms and Drilling Rigs: Seawater transport piping, cooling systems, and fire protection systems on offshore drilling platforms.

  • Desalination Plants: Fluid diversion and combining connections in desalination plant piping systems.

  • Petrochemical Industry: Fluid distribution and combining in chemical piping systems, particularly for corrosive media environments.

  • Power and Energy: Condenser cooling water systems and heat exchanger piping connections in power plants.

  • Other Industrial Applications: Pharmaceutical, food processing, metallurgical machinery, and other industries requiring high corrosion resistance in piping systems.

3. Advantages

  • Exceptional Corrosion Resistance: Copper-nickel alloy offers superior resistance to corrosion in seawater, including resistance to crevice corrosion, pitting, and stress corrosion cracking, particularly in flowing seawater environments.

  • Anti-Biofouling: The slow release of copper ions effectively inhibits marine organism attachment, with a fouling rate more than 60% lower than that of 316L stainless steel.

  • Excellent Weldability: Copper nickel tees can be firmly welded with pipeline components via TIG, MIG, or arc welding, ensuring a tight and leak-proof connection.

  • Good Mechanical Properties: High tensile strength and yield strength enable the fitting to withstand working pressure and external mechanical stress in piping systems.

  • Long Service Life: Service life in marine environments can reach 25 years or more, significantly reducing maintenance and replacement costs.

  • Non-Magnetic and Thermally Stable: The material is non-magnetic with excellent thermal stability, suitable for magnetically sensitive equipment and high-temperature applications.

4. Functions

  • Fluid Diversion and Combining: Divides a single fluid flow into two paths, or combines two flows into one within a piping system, enabling flexible layout of piping networks.

  • Pipe Redirection: Achieves 90° vertical direction change through the branch connection.

  • Reducing Transition: Reducing tees enable transition between different pipe diameters while dividing or combining flow.

  • System Connection: Serves as a standard connection component in piping systems, ensuring reliable connection and sealing between pipe sections.
