CuNi 70/30 Copper Nickel Seamless Pipe, ASTM B466 C71500, Corrosion Resistant for Marine
1.Product Description
Copper nickel pipe (also known as cupro nickel pipe or copper-nickel alloy pipe) is a copper-based alloy pipe formed by adding nickel and small amounts of iron, manganese, and other elements to copper. The most commonly used grades include 90/10 copper-nickel alloy (UNS C70600, approximately 90% copper and 10% nickel) and 70/30 copper-nickel alloy (UNS C71500, approximately 70% copper and 30% nickel). Products are manufactured in accordance with ASTM B466/ASME SB466 (seamless pipe), ASTM B467/ASME SB467 (welded pipe), and ASTM B111 standards. The pipes are produced through seamless extrusion/piercing followed by cold working and final annealing to achieve the required mechanical properties and corrosion resistance.
2.Product Applications
Copper nickel pipes are widely used in marine engineering, shipbuilding, petrochemical, power generation, and desalination industries. Major applications include:
-
Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering: Seawater piping systems, condensers, heat exchangers, ballast water systems, fire protection systems, sanitary plumbing, and process cooling lines aboard ships and offshore platforms
-
Desalination: Tube bundles and piping systems for multi-stage flash (MSF) and multiple effect distillation (MED) desalination plants
-
Oil & Gas: Offshore platform and FPSO topside seawater utilities, seawater injection systems
-
Power Generation: Power plant condensers, nuclear power plant auxiliary cooling systems
-
Chemical & Process Industry: Acid/alkali-resistant heat exchangers, chlor-alkali industry transfer piping, brine evaporators
-
Other Applications: Hydraulic tubing (including brake tubing), aquaculture circulation system piping
3 . Product Advantages
(1) Excellent Corrosion Resistance: Copper-nickel alloys offer outstanding corrosion resistance in seawater, brine, and chloride-containing media, with extremely low corrosion rates (≤0.025 mm/year), far superior to carbon steel and ordinary copper pipes. They exhibit excellent resistance to chloride pitting, stress corrosion cracking, and erosion-corrosion.
(2) Anti-Biofouling Properties: Copper nickel pipe surfaces effectively inhibit the attachment and growth of marine organisms (such as barnacles), maintaining pipe flow efficiency without the need for additional anti-fouling coatings.
(3) Excellent Thermal Conductivity: 90/10 copper-nickel alloy has a thermal conductivity of approximately 50 W/(m·K), making it suitable for heat exchanger applications with higher energy efficiency than stainless steel pipes.
(4) Good Fabricability and Weldability: The pipes can be cold-bent, expanded, and stamped, and are compatible with TIG/MIG welding. No complex post-weld heat treatment is required, and joint corrosion resistance matches that of the base material.
(5) Lightweight Advantage: Copper-nickel material is approximately 50% lighter than comparable carbon steel, helping to reduce structural loads on equipment and platforms.
(6) Long Service Life: Properly designed copper-nickel piping systems can achieve service life equivalent to the full lifecycle of the ship or platform.
