Butt-weld CuNi 90/10 70/30 Reducer ASME B16.9 Class 300 Marine Pipe Fitting
1.Product Description
The Copper Nickel Reducer Fitting is a functional component designed for diameter transition in piping systems, manufactured from copper-nickel corrosion-resistant alloys. Primary grades include 90/10 type (UNS C70600, BFe10-1-1) and 70/30 type (UNS C71500, B30). The fitting is produced through a sequence of processes including material cutting, heating, forging, machining, heat treatment, and surface finishing, resulting in a precisely tapered internal bore. Based on the relationship of flow-path centerlines, the product is divided into Concentric Reducers (coincident centerlines) and Eccentric Reducers (parallel but offset centerlines). The concentric configuration is intended for vertical risers or pump suction/discharge positions requiring precise center alignment; the eccentric configuration is designed for horizontal pipelines, maintaining a continuous flat bottom to facilitate liquid drainage or pigging operations. The products comply with ASME B16.9, DIN 86089, EEMUA146, and GB/T 12459, with end connections supplied in butt-weld, socket-weld, threaded, or flanged types according to customer requirements.
2.Product Applications
Owing to the excellent corrosion resistance of copper-nickel alloys to seawater, saline solutions, and various chemical media, the product is widely used in the following sectors:
-
Ocean shipping and offshore structures – including cooling water, fire-water, ballast water, and process water piping aboard container vessels, bulk carriers, LNG carriers, and offshore oil/gas production facilities.
-
Desalination treatment projects – applied in intake piping, pre-treatment units, energy-recovery devices, and brine discharge lines for reverse-osmosis, multi-stage flash, and low-temperature multi-effect desalination processes.
-
Power station cooling systems – supplied to circulating water, auxiliary cooling water, and condenser-related piping at coastal coal-fired, nuclear, and gas-turbine power projects.
-
Refining and chemical enterprises – used for heat-exchanger inlet/outlet connections, air-cooler piping, and various corrosive material transfer lines requiring diameter transitions.
-
Municipal water supply and drainage facilities – serving as diameter-transition nodes in urban water distribution networks, wastewater treatment plants, and reclaimed water reuse systems.
-
General industrial refrigeration and air-conditioning – applied in central chiller plants, refrigeration stations, and cooling-tower piping for diameter changes.
3.Product Advantages
-
Reliable corrosion resistance – copper-nickel alloys form a stable surface protective film in seawater and chloride environments, exhibiting extremely low general corrosion rates and low susceptibility to pitting and crevice corrosion.
-
Erosion and abrasion resistance – in flowing media containing sand or solid particles, the material demonstrates strong resistance to erosive wear, with minimal wall thinning or grooving on the internal surface.
-
Biofouling prevention – sustained copper-ion release provides a natural deterrent effect against aquatic fouling organisms such as barnacles, algae, and mollusks, helping maintain long-term flow capacity.
-
Stable weld quality – compatible with TIG, MIG, and manual arc welding processes, requiring no complex preheating before welding or post-weld heat treatment, with weld joint properties well matched to the parent metal.
-
Good thermal-cycle tolerance – the material possesses a moderate coefficient of thermal expansion and sound low-cycle fatigue resistance, capable of withstanding repeated stresses from frequent start/stop operations and temperature fluctuations.
-
Significant long-term economic benefit – compared with ordinary carbon steel and stainless steel fittings, copper-nickel alloy fittings offer substantially extended service life in equivalent corrosive environments, greatly reducing replacement frequency and overall maintenance expenditures.
