Based on axial geometry, the fitting is classified into Concentric Reducers (axes aligned on the same centerline) and Eccentric Reducers (axes parallel but not coincident). Concentric types are preferred for vertical risers or alignment-critical applications, whereas eccentric types are intended for horizontal pipelines to maintain a consistent bottom elevation for gravity draining.
