Product Description

ASME B16.9 Copper Nickel 70/30 Concentric Reducer Pipe Fittings for Marine Shipbuilding

1.Product Description

Copper Nickel Reducer Fitting is a pipe fitting designed to connect two pipes of different diameters within a piping system. It is manufactured from copper-nickel alloy, available in two primary grades: 90/10 Copper Nickel (UNS C70600, also known as CuNi90/10 or BFe10-1-1) and 70/30 Copper Nickel (UNS C71500, also known as CuNi70/30 or B30). The fitting features a cone-shaped body where the larger end gradually tapers into a smaller end, enabling smooth transition between pipe sizes.

Copper Nickel Reducer Fittings are available in two configurations: Concentric Reducers, which maintain a common centerline alignment, and Eccentric Reducers, which feature an asymmetrical design that allows offset centerlines to maintain flush positioning. These fittings comply with international standards including ASME B16.9, DIN 86089, EEMUA146, and GB/T 12459. Connection types include butt weld, socket weld, threaded, and flanged connections.

2.Product Applications

Copper Nickel Reducer Fittings are extensively used in corrosive fluid piping systems across various industries. Primary application areas include:

  • Marine and Shipbuilding: Seawater cooling systems, fire mains, ballast water systems, and shipboard piping

  • Offshore Oil and Gas: Offshore platforms, oil coolers, and subsea piping systems

  • Desalination Plants: Seawater intake and brine transportation systems

  • Power Generation: Coastal thermal and nuclear power plant cooling water systems, steam turbine condensers

  • Chemical and Industrial: Chemical brine transportation, heat exchanger systems, and cooling loops

  • Petroleum and Aerospace: Oil and gas pipelines, aviation fuel systems

  •  Navy: Naval ship piping systems

These fittings are also used in vertical pipelines, general piping systems, pump intakes, and drainage systems.

3.Product Advantages

Copper Nickel Reducer Fittings offer the following key advantages:

  1. Exceptional Corrosion Resistance: Outstanding resistance to seawater, brackish water, and various corrosive chemicals. The alloy quickly forms a stable oxide film on the surface, with virtually no pitting or crevice corrosion during long-term service.

  2. Natural Anti-Fouling Properties: The material inherently resists marine biofouling, preventing marine organisms from attaching to pipe walls.

  3. High Strength and Durability: Excellent mechanical properties including high tensile strength, toughness, and wear resistance. Resistant to water hammer impact and high-pressure fatigue.

  4. Superior Weldability: Compatible with common welding processes including TIG, MIG, and arc welding; weld joints are firm, uniform, and corrosion-resistant, with strength consistent with the base material.

  5. Extended Service Life: In chloride-containing and high-temperature, high-pressure environments, copper nickel fittings offer 3-5 times longer service life compared to carbon steel and ordinary stainless steel fittings.

  6. Smooth Flow Transition: The tapered design reduces turbulence and pressure drop, enhancing overall system efficiency.

  7. High Temperature Resistance: Good performance under elevated temperature conditions.
