Monel 400 Nickel Copper Alloy Sheet & Plate Hot/Cold Rolled ASTM Standard Marine Grade CuNi Plate
1. Product Description
Monel 400 is a nickel-copper solid-solution alloy (UNS N04400 / W.Nr. 2.4360) known for its high strength, excellent toughness, and outstanding corrosion resistance across a wide range of temperatures. This alloy does not require age-hardening treatments to achieve its strength properties; it is hardened through cold working . Our Monel 400 sheets and plates are available in both hot-rolled and cold-rolled conditions, strictly manufactured in accordance with ASTM B127 / ASME SB-127 standards, ensuring reliable quality for demanding industrial applications.

3. Applications
Monel 400 plates are widely used in marine engineering, chemical and petrochemical processing, oil and gas extraction, heat exchangers, valves, pumps, seals, and offshore equipment . The alloy’s excellent resistance to seawater, sulfuric acid, hydrofluoric acid, and alkaline solutions makes it a preferred material for components requiring long service life in corrosive environments .
4. Key Features
Excellent seawater corrosion resistance, high strength from cryogenic temperatures up to 550°C, good weldability, and marine-grade durability.

5. Product Advantages
-
Outstanding corrosion resistance in reducing environments, including seawater, salt solutions, and non-oxidizing acids
-
High strength and toughness at both sub-zero and elevated temperatures without heat treatment
-
Excellent resistance to chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking and pitting in fresh water
-
Good thermal conductivity and ductility for ease of fabrication
6. Usage & Welding Instructions
Monel 400 exhibits good weldability and can be welded using TIG (GTAW) and MIG (GMAW) methods. Recommended filler materials are ERNiCu-7 wire or ENiCu-7 electrodes . Key welding precautions include:
-
Clean the welding area thoroughly (at least 25-40mm from the joint) with a stainless steel brush .
-
Use low heat input and control interpass temperature below 150°C to minimize the risk of hot cracking .
-
For TIG welding, use DCEN polarity and high-purity argon (≥99.99%) as shielding gas.
-
Fill the arc crater properly at the end of welding to prevent crater cracks .
7. Precautions
-
Monel 400 has limited resistance to strongly oxidizing acids such as concentrated nitric acid . Use in oxidizing environments should be evaluated carefully.
-
In aerated or oxygen-containing acidic media (e.g., hydrochloric acid), corrosion rates may increase significantly .
-
The alloy has a pronounced work-hardening tendency; intermediate annealing may be required during extensive cold forming .
8. Shipping
Products are packaged according to standard export seaworthy packaging suitable for all modes of transport . We offer flexible shipping options including ocean freight, land transport, and air freight. Delivery time is typically 15-30 days depending on quantity and destination .
