Product Description

Marine CuNi 70/30 Forged Socket Weld Flange ASME B16.5 CL150 Seawater Pipe

1. Product Description

Marine CuNi 70/30 Forged Socket Weld Flange is manufactured from high-quality copper-nickel alloy (UNS C71500) through hot forging process. It features a socket weld connection with Raised Face sealing surface, produced in accordance with ASME B16.5 standard, Class 150 pressure rating. Specifically designed for marine seawater pipe systems, this flange offers excellent corrosion resistance in saltwater environments. The socket weld design allows easy pipe insertion and fillet welding, ensuring smooth flow and secure, leak-free connections. Widely used in shipbuilding and offshore applications, it is a dependable choice for seawater cooling, fire water, bilge, ballast and deck wash piping systems.

4. Product Advantages

  1. Excellent Seawater Corrosion Resistance: CuNi 70/30 alloy forms a natural protective layer in seawater, providing long-term reliable service in marine environments with minimal corrosion.

  2. Natural Anti-Fouling Property: The copper content helps reduce marine organism attachment on internal surfaces, keeping seawater pipes cleaner and reducing maintenance work.

  3. Hot Forged Quality: Manufactured through hot forging process, the flange has dense and uniform grain structure with good mechanical strength, offering dependable performance.

  4. Designed for Marine Use: Specifically suitable for ship and offshore seawater pipe systems, meeting the demands of saltwater and humid marine conditions.

  5. Easy Installation: Socket weld design allows the pipe to be simply inserted into the socket and fillet welded, reducing installation time and labor costs onboard.

  6. Reliable Sealing: Raised Face design provides effective sealing with suitable gaskets, ensuring leak-free connections in seawater service.

  7. Good Weldability: Compatible with CuNi 70/30 pipes using standard TIG welding process with matching filler wire.

  8. ASME B16.5 Compliance: Manufactured to strict dimensional tolerances, ensuring proper fit with standard marine pipes, fittings and fasteners.

  9. Low Maintenance: Self-forming protective film eliminates the need for additional coatings, reducing onboard maintenance workload.

5. Product Functions

  • Provide reliable socket weld connection for marine seawater piping systems

  • Ensure leak-proof sealing in saltwater service conditions

  • Withstand Class 150 working pressure for safe shipboard operation

  • Allow convenient disassembly for system inspection and maintenance

  • Support modular marine piping system design and installation

  • Accommodate pipe thermal expansion within system limits

  • Connect seawater pipes to pumps, valves, heat exchangers and other equipment

6. User Instructions

Pre-Installation Preparation:

  1. Inspect each flange for any transport damage or surface defects before installation.

  2. Verify flange size, pressure class and material grade against ship piping drawings.

  3. Clean the socket bore and raised face sealing surface thoroughly using suitable solvent.

  4. Check pipe end dimensions match socket bore requirements.

  5. Use dedicated tools for copper-nickel material to prevent contamination.

Installation Steps:

  1. Insert the pipe fully into the flange socket until the pipe end reaches the socket bottom.

  2. Withdraw the pipe approximately 1.6mm to create proper expansion gap for welding.

  3. Ensure the pipe is square to the flange face and properly centered in the socket.

  4. Tack weld at minimum 4 equally spaced positions around the hub circumference.

  5. Complete the fillet weld using TIG welding process with ERCuNi filler wire.

  6. Use argon shielding gas throughout welding for proper protection.

  7. Keep interpass temperature moderate, do not overheat the material.

  8. Clean weld area thoroughly after each pass.

Gasket and Bolt Installation:

  1. Select gasket material suitable for seawater service.

  2. Center the gasket on the raised face sealing surface.

  3. Insert bolts and hand-tighten all nuts evenly.

  4. Tighten bolts in a diagonal crossing pattern in minimum 3 passes.

  5. Apply proper torque for uniform gasket compression.

Post-Installation Inspection:

  1. Visually inspect all socket welds for surface defects.

  2. Conduct pressure test according to system requirements.

  3. Check all flange joints for any signs of leakage during testing.

7. Product Precautions

  1. Storage: Store flanges in a clean, dry and ventilated area onboard or in warehouse. Keep away from moisture and salt spray before installation.

  2. Material Separation: During storage and transport, keep CuNi flanges separated from carbon steel and other dissimilar metals to prevent contact corrosion.

  3. Handle with Care: CuNi material is softer than steel. Avoid dropping or impact during handling to prevent surface damage to sealing faces.

  4. No Ammonia Service: CuNi 70/30 should not be used in systems containing ammonia or amine compounds.

  5. Welding Protection: Always use argon shielding gas when welding. Poor shielding results in weld oxidation and reduced quality.

  6. Dedicated Tools: Use separate tools, brushes and grinding wheels reserved for copper-nickel work to prevent iron contamination.

  7. Flow Velocity: For continuous seawater service, keep flow velocity within reasonable limits to maximize flange service life.

  8. System Material Consistency: Where possible, use same material throughout the seawater piping system. Take isolation measures if connecting to dissimilar metals.

  9. Regular Inspection: Periodically check flange joints for signs of leakage or corrosion during vessel maintenance cycles.
