1. Product Description

Copper Nickel Fittings are manufactured from premium CuNi 70/30 (UNS C71500) raw material through hot forging or seamless forming process, featuring butt weld connection type. The products are manufactured in strict accordance with ASME B16.9 standard, covering a complete range of elbows, tees, reducers, end caps, stub ends and other pipe fittings. Due to their excellent seawater corrosion resistance and anti-biofouling properties, copper nickel alloy fittings are widely used in shipbuilding, seawater desalination, offshore oil platforms, chemical heat exchangers and other marine and industrial piping systems.

7. User Instructions

Pre-Installation Preparation:

  1. Inspect each fitting appearance, confirm no cracks, deformation, surface defects or other imperfections.

  2. Verify fitting type, size, wall thickness, and material grade against design drawings and material specifications.

  3. Clean fitting weld ends, removing oil, grease, oxide scale and other impurities.

  4. Ensure proper fit-up alignment between fitting and pipe ends, with uniform root gap for butt welding.

Installation Steps:

  1. Align fitting and pipe ends with proper root gap as per welding procedure specification.

  2. Tack weld at minimum 4 points evenly distributed around circumference.

  3. Use TIG (GTAW) welding process for root pass with ERCuNi filler metal.

  4. Complete fill and cap passes using TIG or MIG (GMAW) with compatible CuNi filler metal.

  5. Control interpass temperature not exceeding 150°C to avoid alloy element burn-off.

  6. Ensure full penetration and proper reinforcement at weld joints.

  7. Remove welding slag and spatter after each pass.

Post-Installation Inspection:

  1. Conduct visual inspection of all welds for surface defects.

  2. Perform penetrant testing (PT) or radiographic testing (RT) as per project requirements.

  3. System hydrostatic test pressure shall be 1.5 times design pressure, hold for minimum 30 minutes without leakage or pressure drop.


8. Product Precautions

  1. Avoid Direct Contact with Carbon Steel: Copper-nickel alloy fittings in contact with carbon steel may cause galvanic corrosion. Must be stored and transported separately. Use wooden pallets or non-metallic separators.

  2. Avoid Ammonia-Containing Media: Copper alloys are prone to stress corrosion cracking in ammonia environments. Strictly prohibited for ammonia or amine-containing systems.

  3. Welding Shielding Gas Requirement: Pure argon or argon-helium mixture must be used as shielding gas during TIG welding to prevent weld oxidation and porosity. Ensure adequate back purging for root pass protection.

  4. Avoid Excessive Seawater Flow Velocity: Although CuNi 70/30 has excellent erosion-corrosion resistance, continuous flow velocity is recommended not to exceed 3.5m/s, especially at elbows and tee branches where turbulence intensifies.

  5. Avoid Dissimilar Metal Mixing in Same System: Piping systems should maintain material uniformity to avoid galvanic corrosion risks. If dissimilar metal connection is required, insulating joints or dielectric couplings must be installed.

  6. No Post-Weld Heat Treatment Required: CuNi alloy generally does not require post-weld heat treatment. However, all welding spatter, slag and surface oxides must be thoroughly removed after welding.

  7. Proper Storage Requirements: Store in dry and ventilated indoor warehouse area. Avoid outdoor exposure, rain and direct sunlight. Ambient humidity should be ≤ 60%. Keep away from carbon steel and other dissimilar metals.

  8. Handle with Care: Copper nickel fittings are relatively soft compared to steel. Avoid dropping, dragging or impacting during handling to prevent surface damage and deformation.
